- 1 cup chana brown
- 2 onion
- 1 big tomato purée
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves
- 2 green chillies

- 2 tsp chilli powder

- 2 tsp Garam masala
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 3 cardamoms

- To grind
- 1/2 cup coconut
- 1 tsp fennel seeds
- 1 tbsp coriander seeds
- 2 tbsp coconut oil
- 2 cup water
- As per taste Salt
- For tempering-
- 1 tsp mustard urad dal mix
- Few curry leaves
- 2 dry red chillies
Steps to make to make Kadala curry
- In a pressure cooker, add the black chickpeas with 2cups of water, season with salt, and cook till ¾ this done. pressure cook for 5-6 whistle. Turn off the flame.
Drain and keep aside. Take tomato in a blender and puree till smooth. - Take coconut in a blender and blend it into smooth paste.
- Heat oil in a pan, add whole spices
and let them sizzle. - Add in onions, curry leaves,
chilies and saute till golden. - Add ginger garlic paste and mix
well. Add tomatoes and cook till mushy. - Add salt and spice powders and
mix well.Add coconut paste and mix well. - Add chana, along with cooking
liquid. Add pureed chana and
more water if needed. - Simmer the whole thing for 10
Mins. - For tempering: heat oil in a pan add mustard and urad dal mix when the crackle then adds dry red chili and curry leaves and sauté for a few minutes. Then pour on the cooked chana.
- Serve chana with Appam, idiyappam, puttu, and enjoy
